The divine wisdom in which it is our privilege to live our human lives comes to us from Scripture and Catholic Tradition, made alive in us by the Holy Spirit. The time has come once again, after a summer break, to share that wisdom with our children who are in public schools. Our PREP programme conducted its parent orientation evening last Thursday, and at today’s 11:15 mass, we will be commissioning the teachers and assistant-teachers of our PREP programme. I take this opportunity to thank Edwin and all of our volunteer staff at PREP for this incredibly important and edifying ministry that they engage in, on our behalf and for the benefit of so many families. And I remind you all that if you have children in grades one to seven in a public school, you can put them into PREP at any time. I remind you as well that if you know of anyone who is looking for catechesis for their children in public schools, you can suggest our programme to them. You can reach the PREP coordinator, Edwin Cruz, at the parish office by phone at 604-435-9611, ext 5 or by email at firstname.lastname@example.org.
If you recall, last year we introduced a precious adjunct to PREP: VANSPEC, a programme of catechesis for children who, because of their special needs, cannot be accommodated in a classroom environment. The lessons are one-on-one, with a second adult always present, in a quiet, peaceful environment. This programme is beginning this week as well. If you have a child in this category, or if you know someone who does, the person to contact is our VANSPEC site coordinator, Christina Reyes, at 604-435-9611 (She is seldom in the office, but if you leave a name and number, your message will be communicated to her.) You can also reach her by email at email@example.com. I take this opportunity to thank Christina and her team of VANSPEC teachers and assistants for this all-important ministry that they exercise, again, in our name. Hopefully, we will be commissioning our VANSPEC staff as well at the 11:15 mass this weekend.
Finally, please join me in praying today especially for our staff, children, and parents involved in PREP and in VANSPEC in the coming year, that they will all receive something of the “counsel and wisdom” of God in this new catechetical year.
