These lines from Psalm 126 in today’s liturgy are appropriate for this 2019 Share Lent Sunday. Development and Peace’s Share Lent special collection is motivated by an appeal to help D&P in all its endeavours, but in particular this year, to help them help the 68.5 million people in our world who are migrants, for all sorts of reasons. It is good to allow ourselves to hope with Psalm 126 that though they now sow in tears, they will reap with shouts of joy; that though now they go out weeping, they shall come home with shouts of joy, or at least, they shall find a new home with people who receive them generously, and provide them with a second chance at life. It is good to hope for this, but it is even better to contribute to this cause. Development and Peace is notoriously good at providing funding for people who, among other things, come to the rescue of migrants wherever they happen to be. Every penny given to D&P is a penny well spent. The plight of migrants in our world is horrible. Let us not miss this opportunity to contribute to their betterment. It is a matter of mercy, of compassion, which is our highest calling as Christians.
May God bless all the world’s migrants, and relieve their suffering. With our help, Development and Peace is in a position to make a significant contribution to this task.
Let’s be a part of the solution to this drama. Let’s make a difference.
God bless us all,
