🍁Celebrating Canada Day with Respect and Reflection

On this Canada Day, we celebrate the beauty and diversity of our country. As we enjoy the festivities, it is also important to reflect on our shared history and the path to reconciliation with Indigenous Peoples.

We acknowledge that Canada Day can be a complex time for many Indigenous communities. The history of our nation includes periods of hardship and injustice towards Indigenous Peoples, including the impacts of colonization and the residential school system.

Our Catholic faith calls us to seek justice, reconciliation, and to walk together in love and understanding. As we celebrate today, let us also:
- Honor Indigenous Cultures: Take time to learn about and celebrate the rich cultures, languages, and traditions of Indigenous Peoples.
- Listen and Learn: Engage with stories and teachings from Indigenous voices to better understand their experiences and perspectives.
- Support Reconciliation Efforts: Participate in or support initiatives that promote healing and reconciliation.

Let us pray for unity, healing, and a future where all Canadians can thrive together with mutual respect and understanding.
