This Ministry takes its name and inspiration from Catholic tradition as depicted in the 6th Station of the Cross (Veronica wipes the face of Jesus).
We strive to serve those who are Residents in six different Care Homes in our Parish as well as may be confined to Hospital or home.
Mass or Sacramental Anointing with Communion is celebrated once a month in each – Fair Haven, St. Michael’s Centre, Willingdon Care Centre, Courtyard Terrace, Southview Terrace and Royal Arch. In addition Holy Communion is provided weekly and arrangements are made for those who request Confession or Holy Anointing. Arrangements are also made for those who request a home or Hospital visit. Devotional articles – rosaries, scapulars, holy water etc. are made available.
A team of volunteers (presently some 35) helps especially with Mass in the Care Homes. Most residents need assistance either with walking or a wheel chair to attend the Mass/Anointing Service and return to their rooms. A music ministry is a much valued part of our Liturgies. Many residents (both Catholic and non-Catholic) appreciate the volunteers' time spent visiting and socializing with them.
Two general meetings are held annually- one in January and one in June.
All that is required a generous heart willing to serve and sufficient mobility to carry out the tasks.
Appeals are made from time to time via the bulletin when more volunteers are needed.
