Overview

St. Mary's Mental Health Ministry provides a welcoming, faith-filled community where individuals and families affected by mental health challenges can find prayer, support, education, and accompaniment.

We do not provide therapy, counselling, or clinical mental health services. Instead, we:

  • Accompany those experiencing mental health challenges
  • Recognize faith and community as important sources of hope and healing
  • Foster a parish culture of compassion, inclusion, and understanding
  • Help connect people with appropriate mental health resources
  • Equip clergy, staff, and volunteers to provide informed pastoral care

Together, we seek to reduce stigma and affirm the dignity and worth of every person.

Who is a Mental Health Minister?

Mental Health Ministers are trained parish volunteers rooted in the Catholic faith who accompany individuals and families through prayer, compassionate listening, and support.

They do not provide treatment or therapy, but they:

  • Listen without judgment
  • Offer prayerful accompaniment
  • Maintain confidentiality and healthy boundaries
  • Develop mental health awareness and knowledge of local resources
  • Cultivate hope, acceptance, and understanding
