Who is Jesus

Pastor's Corner Dec.7.2025 - Second Sunday in Advent

by Joseph D'Souza, OP

As we enter the Second Week of Advent and light the second candle on our Advent wreath representing peace, the Scriptures invite us to deepen our hope and prepare our hearts for the coming of Christ. Isaiah offers a beautiful vision: “A shoot shall sprout from the stump of Jesse”—a promise that even in what looks lifeless or broken, God brings forth new life (Is 11:1–10). Advent is exactly that season of hopeful waiting, trusting that God is already at work restoring, healing, and renewing us.

St. Paul, in the Second Reading, reminds us that the Scriptures were written to encourage us, to give us endurance and hope (Rom 15:4–9). Advent is a time to slow down, listen again to God’s Word, and let hope take root in our hearts. And in the Gospel, John the Baptist calls us to prepare the way of the Lord—not simply by external activities, but by an honest conversion of heart. His strong words remind us that spiritual preparation is essential if we are to welcome Christ with joy.

Last week, we experienced a very meaningful celebration in our parish. Over two days, we gathered for our Volunteer Appreciation event—an opportunity to honor the countless hours, the generosity, and the selflessness of all who serve our parish community. It was truly a family celebration. As your pastor, I remain deeply grateful for every volunteer who offers their time with joy and humility. Together, you make the Gospel visible in our parish.

Next week, we look forward to another special moment—our Seniors Anointing Mass and Christmas Party. Our senior parishioners are a treasure of faith. They are living witnesses of perseverance, prayer, and devotion. Their example strengthens the entire parish family, and we joyfully gather to bless them and celebrate with them.

As Advent continues, I would also like to highlight an important date: December 16—our Parish Penitential Service. Several priests from nearby communities will join us to hear confessions. This is a wonderful opportunity to make a good confession, to receive God’s mercy, and to prepare our hearts spiritually for Christmas. Confession clears the manger of our hearts so that Christ may be welcomed with peace and joy.

May this Second Week of Advent fill your homes with hope, your hearts with peace, and your lives with the joyful expectation of Christ’s coming. Let us continue walking together as a parish family toward the light of Christmas.
