The Sixth Sunday of Lent

Station Twelve:  Jesus Dies on the Cross

This is from St. Mary’s Stations of the Cross.  These Stations have their own special history.  They were imported from Spain about 65 years ago and hung in the “old” St. Mary’s that first opened on Christmas Eve, 1948.  After time had faded the original colour, it was decided to paint over the Stations with white paint.  They remained pure white until 1994 when a decision was made to restore them to their original colour.  Mr. Ken Vickets, a parishioner, was commissioned to paint them and he did so over a four-month period. He commented that the most meaningful part of his work was reflecting on the person of Jesus as he painted the face of Jesus in each Station. When the “new” St. Mary’s opened on November 1st, 1995, these beautifully restored Stations graced the walls of our Church.

As we journey through Holy Week, use this special time to reflect on God’s great mercy extended to us through his Son, Jesus Christ.
