PC-01.11.2026 - Solemnity of the Epiphany

by Joseph D'Souza, OP

Dear Parishioners of St. Mary’s,

As we step into the first Sunday of the New Year, the Church invites us to celebrate the Solemnity of the Epiphany of the Lord. The word Epiphany comes from the Greek epiphaneia, meaning manifestation or revealing. On this feast, Christ is revealed not only to Israel but to all nations, represented by the Magi who journey from afar, guided by a star. The Epiphany reminds us that Jesus is the Savior of all people, and His light is meant to shine for everyone, without exception.

At the very beginning of this New Year, we come before the Lord first and foremost with hearts full of gratitude. Like the Magi who “opened their treasures and offered him gifts” (Matthew 2:11), we offer God our thanks for His constant guidance, protection, and blessings throughout the past year. Even in moments of uncertainty, God has remained faithful, leading us step by step.

I wish to express my sincere gratitude to our staff, ministry leaders, and all our volunteers who give so generously of their time, energy, and talents. Your dedication is a living witness to faith in action. I am especially thankful to all our donors and benefactors, and in a special way to those who contributed so generously to Project Advance and our various maintenance works. Your generosity is not just financial support; it is an act of trust in God and love for this parish community.

St. Paul reminds us, “I give thanks to my God always for you because of the grace of God that has been given you in Christ Jesus” (1 Corinthians 1:4). Truly, it is your presence, your prayers, and your willingness to serve that make St. Mary’s not just a parish, but a family.

The Epiphany also challenges us as we have begun this New Year. The Magi were attentive to the signs, courageous enough to leave their comfort, and humble enough to kneel before a child. Pope Francis once said, “Hope opens new horizons, making us capable of dreaming what is not even imaginable.” May this be our attitude as we embark on a journey in the year ahead.

In this new year, let us move forward with open hearts: grateful for all that has been, and trustingly welcoming all that will be. May the light of Christ guide our steps, strengthen our hope, and make us signs of His love in the world.

With prayers and blessings for a grace-filled New Year,
