Pastor's Corner Oct.5.2025 - The Power Of The Rosary

by Joseph D'Souza, OP

The month of October is dedicated to the Holy Rosary, one of the most powerful prayers of our Catholic faith. The rosary is more than just a set of beads in our hands; it is a spiritual weapon that helps us to fight and win over the forces of evil and darkness. Countless saints, including St. Dominic and St. John Paul II, have reminded us of its power to protect families, strengthen faith, and bring peace to troubled hearts. When prayed with devotion, the rosary becomes a shield against temptation and a light in the midst of spiritual struggles.

The beauty of the rosary is that it is not only a prayer of intercession but also a journey through the very life of our Lord Jesus Christ. As we meditate on the Joyful, Sorrowful, Glorious, and Luminous Mysteries, we are walking side by side with Jesus, from His Incarnation to His Resurrection and beyond. Mary, our Blessed Mother, gently leads us along this path. She takes us by the hand and points us always toward her Son, teaching us how to love Him more deeply and to live more faithfully as His disciples.

This month, we are also invited to unite ourselves with the prayer intention of the Holy Father, Pope: that believers in different religious traditions might work together to defend and promote peace, justice, and human fraternity. In a world often divided by violence, hatred, and suspicion, the rosary becomes a prayer not only for our personal sanctification but also for the healing of humanity. Through Mary’s intercession, may our prayers open hearts to dialogue, build bridges of understanding, and foster genuine respect among people of all faiths.

The readings this Sunday also speak powerfully to us. The prophet Habakkuk (Hab 1:2-3; 2:2-4) cries out to God amid violence and injustice, yet God answers with hope: “The just one, because of his faith, shall live.” St. Paul encourages Timothy (2 Tim 1:6-8, 13-14) to stir into flame the gift of faith and to bear witness with courage. In the Gospel (Luke 5:5-10), Jesus calls the disciples to trust and cast their nets into deep waters, leading to an abundant catch.
