Pastor's Corner Sep.21.2025 - Good Stewards, Grateful Hearts

by Joseph D'Souza, OP

Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,

This Sunday’s Gospel (Luke 16:1–13) presents us with the parable of the dishonest steward. At first glance, it may seem puzzling that Jesus commends him, but what the Lord highlights is not dishonesty, but his cleverness and foresight in preparing for the future. Jesus reminds us that “you cannot serve both God and mammon.” Wealth and possessions are not evil in themselves, but they are gifts entrusted to us. We are called to use them wisely, generously, and always with eternity in mind. The question the Gospel leaves us with is: Do I use what God has given me—time, talent, and treasure—for His glory and the service of others, or only for myself?

This past Saturday was truly a joyful day for our parish family. Twelve couples came forward to be united in the Sacrament of Marriage through a special Mass Marriage Program. It was a beautiful witness to love, faith, and God’s providence. Seeing them exchange vows together reminded us that marriage is not simply a private affair, but a sacrament celebrated within and strengthened by the community of faith. Let us continue to pray for these couples, that their homes may be filled with God’s grace, peace, and joy.

I am also happy to share that the work on the kneelers in our church has been completed. Many of you have already expressed your gratitude for this, as it helps us to pray with greater comfort and reverence. I thank you sincerely for your cooperation during the period of work and for the generosity of all who contributed to making this project possible. While we have not yet covered the full cost through donations, I invite those who are able to consider making a small sacrifice to support this cause. Every offering, given in love, is a way of storing up treasure in heaven.

Let us continue to walk together as good stewards of God’s blessings, always placing our trust in Him who alone is our true wealth.

I wish us all a blessed week!
