“He ordered them not to leave Jerusalem, but to wait there for the promise of the Father. ‘You will be baptized with the Holy Spirit not many days from now… You will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.’ When he had said this, as they were watching, he was lifted up and a cloud took him out of their sight.”  Ac 1,4…9

Dear parishioners,

The Ascension and Pentecost, it’s all one. We are told that after Jesus had ascended, the disciples returned to Jerusalem with great joy. In principle, the ascension should be a sad day, and perhaps indeed it was. But seen from a distance, it’s not a sad day at all, because it ushered in the time of the Holy Spirit. The time when the disciples of Christ become, in the power of the Spirit, Christ himself, present to the world for all time. As Jesus himself states in the gospel of John, “It is better for you that I go, because unless I leave, you will not receive the Holy Spirit. But if you receive the Holy Spirit, then you will do even greater things than I have done, because you will be here, in the world, inhabited by the Holy Spirit, whereas I will be with the Father in Heaven. And so it is that we are with Jesus in a new, more intimate way, parts of him, carrying on his mission “until the end of the age”. All of it made possible by the Holy Spirit abiding in us. What an adventure we are in…

Little to report this week.

For those of you who are attending mass this Sunday, there is a second collection for “Student Aid”. This is to help the parish help parishioners who are struggling to pay tuition in our Catholic schools. Also, tickets are on sale after all masses this Sunday for the building fund raffle that will be drawn on June 24th, and for the Fr. Robert Galea encounter with kids under the age of 12 that will take place on June 23rd.

Remember to wear the colours of the Holy Spirit next Sunday to celebrate Pentecost!

God keep us all safe and well.
