“There is no one who has left house or brothers or sisters or mother or father or children or fields, for my sake and for the sake of the Good News, who will not receive a hundredfold now in this age – houses, brothers and sisters, mothers and children, and fields – but with persecutions – and in the age to come, eternal life.” Mk 10,29-30

Dear parishioners,

I know from personal experience that Jesus’ words spoken here are true. I have received more than I can say from my life as a Dominican and a priest. That is why I am so happy for Martin Cayer, one of our parishioners, who was ordained a permanent deacon, along with eight other men, just this last Thursday, October 7th, feast of Our Lady of the Most Holy Rosary. As his life of service as a deacon unfolds, I know that he will receive more than he has given up to live this life of service. If you would like to meet and congratulate him, Martin will be serving as deacon and giving the homily at three masses next Sunday, the 5:00 p.m. on Saturday, and the 11:15 a.m. and 1:00 p.m. masses on Sunday.

Great news: the catalogue of our parish library is now available on our parish website. Just scroll down the main page of the website. Look for “Library”, and click. You will find a link to “online catalogue” as well as the email address of Bill Murphy, our librarian, if you wish to order a book or other item from our library. Finally! Thanks to Bill and Lucas and Marianne for having made this happen.

Today’s second collection is actually the Good Friday collection that we were unable to have on Good Friday, since we were shut down. This is an important collection, all the more so because it was missed in 2020 as well. The funds that are collected are used to maintain the many Christian pilgrimage sites in Israel, and to meet the needs of the Church in the Holy Land.

Please note that the booklet of which we spoke last Sunday, “Equipped: Smart Catholic Parenting in a Sexualized Culture”, is available again this week at all exits. It contains many tips to help you make your home a safe haven, especially with respect to online threats to the purity of your children. Also available is the lovely prayer card that we distributed on the occasion of Safe Haven Sunday. We under-estimated demand, and ran out of copies last Sunday. More copies are available again this Sunday at all exits.

Next Sunday, in addition to Martin Cayer’s presence at three of our masses, we will have the visit of parishioners from St. Anthony of Padua parish in Agassiz. They are raising funds for the construction of a shrine to Sto. Nino at their parish. There should be someone to speak at every mass.

That’s it for this Sunday. Wishing you all a pleasant, safe week. In keeping with this Sunday’s readings, I pray in particular that your lives will be imbued with the wisdom of God, and the Word of God.

God bless,
Fr. Guy
